Update coming soon ...
Cannes 2008 is just around the corner and Evoke Pictures has several exciting projects in development that will be presented at the Cannes film market. Headlining is the hilarious comedy "The Emancipation of Putz". A satire about a Jewish taxidermist, his wife, her cat and a whole lot of Palestinians in New York.
Bon Voyage
As of the 25th of April this year Evoke will going into hibernation. I am moving to London on a two year working visa. The reason I am doing this is to try and crack into the international feature film business. I am desperate to learn more and experience big time film making. I feel certain that this is the right step for me to take at this time. I am excited about the opportunities in front of me and I look forward to this future with faith and confidence. This is not the end of Evoke…
I believe wholeheartedly in the principles of Evoke and I am so grateful to all the wonderful people who have worked with me on our projects thus far. It has been so much fun and I have been extremely fortunate to have known and worked with such generous people. This is not the end of the line and I look forward to coming back with increased skills and knowledge (and hopefully money and contacts) and working with you all again in the future.
At the present time this is very much a step into the unknown for me. I have only a couple of tentative contacts in the film business in the UK and I am planning to just knock on doors and put out my hand and say “Gidday I’m Geoff from New Zealand can I have a job please?” They say that God loves a trier and I am pretty sure he loves me – but I guess we will have to wait and see…
If you know people in the film business in the UK I would very much appreciate it if you could put me in touch with them. I have much to learn, a fair bit to offer and I am one hundred percent committed!
Once again thanks for being part of Evoke so far, whether you operated the camera, struck the lights, put on a costume or just encouraged me with kind words I am eternally grateful.
Let the journey begin…
Cheers
Geoff Talbot

Just to let you know "The Devil you Meet" will be screeening at Galatos in Auckland city at 6pm on Thursday the 23rd of February as part of the Moving Image centers Short fuse program..
We have four free tickets...I'm going so that makes three. Let me know if you want to come along. Should be a good night!!!!
Just so you don't think this Evoke newsletter gig is a positive publicity machine...
We've decided to share the bad news as well - just so we can really brighten up your day!
Our short film "X versus Y" has NOT received funding from the film fund! Just to remind you...
“This was the story about "Merricks Hugo Robust 1” - the first of his kind. In a futuristic world ruled by Matriarchs, Merricks is kept in a coma at a breeding center providing DNA for a generation of fatherless children. The Matriarchs have reduced masculinity to something discrete, something manageable and controllable and Merricks is their prisoner in a safe yet sterile world. Only love can set Merricks free."
Well apparently Merricks was not loved and has not been set free. So we have decided that he is to reproduce into a much longer movie and we are going to develop a feature script!
Love to you all especially Merricks - hang in there my friend (love is coming we shall set you free!)
Cheers
Geoff
"Just to let you know we have a radical new short film in the pipeline!
We have an entry in the Moonlight Shorts Competition (www.moonlightshorts.co.nz), and we are planning a one day shooting extravaganza on Tuesday the 31st of January.
Our film is called "Make Evelyn Smile" and is a black and white period comedy about a sad lady who visits the same bar night after night for two years and never smiles. There is a poem on the back of the toilet door offering one hundred pounds to the first man who can make her smile."
Already we have recruited a great cast including Chic Littlewood, Toby Sharpe and Michael Hallows; with a surprising show stealing cameo from a certain young director! (maybe).
If you have skills in the areas of production, lighting or art direction and would like to help us, flick us an email we'd love to hear from you.!
Next newsletter out soon!
